I love the ride. It was so much fun

While road bikes were Adelaide's main attraction during the Tour Down Under, the presence of electric bicycles did not go unnoticed in the city. Both Bosch and Shimano had Gazelle e-bikes amongst others available for test rides in the TDU village. And in collaboration with local Gazelle dealer Bicycle Express, guided e-bike tours were organised to the start of two stages.

Easy and comfortable

Anne was one of the people who conquered the heat and jumped on a Gazelle e-bike to ride from Bicycle Express to the start of stage 2 in Unley. Having heard about the event on Facebook, she took the opportunity to experience an e-bike for the first time.

“I knew e-bikes existed, but had never ridden one before. I loved the ride. It was so much fun! I can definitely see the advantage of owning one myself and ride regularly."

Phil happened to be another first-timer who took a chance at riding a bicycle with pedal assist. He thoroughly enjoyed the morning.

“The Gazelle Ultimate was so easy and comfortable to ride. I can see how cities with a few hills would be excellent for bicycles with an electric motor. I have already recommended friends and family to try one themselves!”

More e-bikes on the road

Next to the organised rides, Gazelle offered a test ride - with a free coffee on the way - from Bicycle Express' store in the city centre. Store manager Andy Clarke hailed the response from riders: "We've had quite some interest in the test rides. People returned positively surprised and happy. The test rides during the event even lead to some immediate purchases, which says a lot about how people valued their ride."

As the streets of Adelaide saw the majority of road bikes leave for another year, they might actually see an increase in the number of e-bikes on their roads.
